Agartala, 10th July 2026: The Orthopedic Department of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has achieved a remarkable milestone, giving a new lease of life to a patient through a highly complex surgery.
On April 4, 2026, Tuton Shil (48), a resident of Kauyaban in Ranirbazar, suffered a critical pelvic bone fracture after being struck by a speeding motorcycle near his home. Initially treated at the Ranirbazar Primary Health Centre, he was later referred to GBP Hospital due to the severity of his condition. While other units suggested sending him outside the state for advanced treatment, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Pulak Saha stepped forward with determination and compassion, deciding to perform the surgery himself.
On April 29, 2026, Dr. Saha, Trauma Care Centre In-charge, successfully led a four-hour-long intricate operation to repair the fractured pelvic bone. He was assisted by Dr. Swarajit Debbarma, Dr. Santosh Riang, and a dedicated team of nurses, technicians, and healthcare staff.
Thanks to their expertise, Tuton Shil recovered steadily and was discharged on May 11, 2026. His family expressed immense relief and gratitude, highlighting that the entire treatment was provided free of cost under the Ayushman Card scheme. On July 3, during a routine check-up, the patient was found to be in perfect health, moving without difficulty.
This achievement not only underscores the advanced capabilities of GBP Hospital but also restores public faith in the medical profession. Notably, Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital remains one of the few institutions in the North-East region equipped to perform pelvic bone surgeries.
