Over 100 Autos Detained in Agartala for Violating City Entry Rules: SP

Date:

Agartala, 21st   August 2026 : More than 100 autorickshaws and e-rickshaws were detained by Tripura Traffic Police on Friday during a special enforcement drive for allegedly flouting restrictions on their entry and movement within Agartala city.

Tripura Traffic Police Superintendent Kanta Jangir said specific restrictions are in place for autorickshaws and e-rickshaws operating within the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area. Under the notified rules, vehicles operating outside the AMC limits are not allowed to enter and ply inside the city beyond designated points.

According to Jangir, Radhanagar Bus Stand, Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Stand and Nagerjala Bus Stand have been identified as designated limits for autos coming from outside the AMC area.

The restrictions were introduced to regulate the movement of autos, reduce congestion and ensure smoother traffic management in the city. However, traffic officials said a number of vehicles continued to enter restricted areas despite repeated instructions.

Jangir said certain exemptions are allowed in genuine emergency situations, particularly for passengers travelling for medical treatment, students and other urgent purposes.

“Awareness programmes have been conducted and meetings were held with auto-rickshaw unions. Drivers were also informed about the restrictions through notices. Despite these measures, violations continued,” Jangir said.

Following the repeated violations, the Traffic Police launched a special enforcement operation on Friday and detained more than 100 autorickshaws and e-rickshaws found entering or operating inside the restricted areas.

The Traffic Police said enforcement will be intensified in the coming days and urged auto operators to strictly follow the notified routes and restrictions to help ease traffic congestion and improve road discipline in Agartala.
