Rs 1.30 crore collected disposing 630 cases in National Lok Adalat

Agartala, September 09, 2023: The third National Lok Adalat of this year was held on Saturday in 71 benches across the state where a total of 630 cases were disposed out of 15,339 and an amount of Rs 1,29,72,916 have been collected.

According to the State Legal Services Authority, the Lok Adalat took up 15,339 cases for disposal, out of which 6,846 cases were related to banks and 7,051 were related to criminal compoundable cases. The pending cases included motor accident compensation cases, consumer court cases, arbitrable criminal dispute cases, matrimonial dispute cases, check bounce cases, other civil cases and employment cases.

In the Lok Adalat 7,467 were related to pre-litigation disputes and 7,872 were pending in various courts. The pre-litigation disputes included 6,846 cases related to repayment of bank loans and 621 cases related to unpaid bills of telecommunication corporations.

The Lok Adalat also had a bench in the Tripura High Court, where several civil and criminal appeals were disposed of. The maximum number of 16 benches in Lok Adalat was sitting in Agartala court premises, where a help desk was set up to assist the citizens.

The National Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism that is held at regular intervals throughout the country, in all the courts from the Supreme Court to the taluk levels. It aims to provide speedy and inexpensive justice to the litigants by settling their cases amicably. The award made by the Lok Adalat is final and binding on all parties and no appeal lies against it. The National Lok Adalat also helps in reducing the pendency of cases in the courts and saving the court fee for the parties.
