Agartala, May 31, 2023: The central government has sanctioned over three lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural and Urban for Tripura, Tourism and Transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) in a notification on May 29 last sanctioned 1,30,695 houses under PMAY-Gramin across the state, Chowdhury said while briefing media persons here at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
He said “In the past, we have noticed that there has been the central government under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sanctioned large number of houses under PMAY in rural and urban areas of the state.”
“So far, two lakh one thousand houses have been distributed under PMAY-Gramin and among them, 48,000 are still under construction and rest were completed”, he added.
Chowdhury said that the central government has set a target of “Har Ghar Makan” by 2024 and Tripura is also not lagging behind. At present, there are 7.42 households in rural areas and it is also a matter of fact that there are some households who don’t need a house under PMAY, he said.
Apart from this, the minister said that as many as 87,000 houses were sanctioned under PMAY-Urban and among them, 53,000 houses were constructed and rest 34,000 are under construction.
It is worthy to mention here that the MoRD has sanctioned 77,978 houses for Assam, 59,180 for Manipur, 1,15,654 for Meghalaya, 12,489 for Mizoram, 29,892 for Nagaland, and 7,429 for Sikkim.
