Agartala, 9th August 2025: Tripura’s Food and Agriculture departments rolled out its paddy procurement initiative at Minimum Support Price (MSP) today. The launch event took place at Daucherra Bazaar in West Ghilatali under the Kalyanpur Block.
The program was formally inaugurated by local MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury, who highlighted the scheme’s potential to transform the agricultural landscape of the area.
Addressing the gathering, Choudhury said the initiative would enable farmers to sell their produce directly to the government at fair rates, eliminating exploitative middlemen and ensuring just compensation for their labor.
“There was a time when farmers in our state were victims of severe neglect. They had no choice but to sell their crops at throwaway prices, which led to widespread disinterest in farming. But since the change in government in 2018, the introduction of fair price procurement has revived hope. Farmers are returning to their fields, free from the burden of debt and exploitation,” the MLA remarked.
For the current procurement cycle, the Kalyanpur Agricultural Subdivision has set a target of five metric tons of paddy. Officials expect the initiative to benefit hundreds of farmers and inject fresh momentum into the region’s agricultural economy.
Apurba Krishna Chakraborty, Additional SDM of Teliamura Subdivision; Himendu Bikash Pal, BDO of Kalyanpur Block; and Debraj Barman, Subdivisional Agriculture Officer, among others attended the programme.
