Panchayat Office Remains Locked Past 1 PM, Residents Protest in Rajnagar

Date:

Agartala, 12th May 2026:  Residents of Rajnagar Gram Panchayat under the Bogafa Block have expressed strong anger after finding the panchayat office locked even after 1 PM on Tuesday. The incident has triggered widespread criticism among locals, who questioned whether the government office was functioning as a public service institution or a “private estate.”

According to local residents, the same situation has been continuing for a long time at the Rajnagar Panchayat office. Allegations have been raised against Panchayat Secretaries Subrata Nath and Tulsi Dey, along with GRS officials Pramod Reang and Shailen Reang, for reportedly arriving late to the office on a regular basis.

As per government rules, the office is supposed to open by 10 AM. However, locals claim that even well past noon, the office often remains locked, causing severe inconvenience to the public.

Daily wage earners and villagers traveling from distant areas are reportedly forced to wait for hours under the scorching sun, only to return home without receiving any services. Some people come seeking urgent certificates, while others visit for job card-related work or inquiries regarding housing schemes.

A section of the residents alleged, “If employees drawing salaries from taxpayers’ money do not open the office on time, where will ordinary people go for help?”

The role of the Bogafa Block administration has also come under scrutiny following the incident. Residents have demanded immediate action against the concerned officials and urged authorities to ensure that the panchayat office functions regularly and opens on time.

Locals also took a sarcastic dig at the government’s “Duare Sarkar” initiative, saying that in reality, Rajnagar Panchayat is witnessing “Locks at the Door” instead of “Government at the Doorstep.”
