Agartala, 20th July 2024: On the first day of the withdrawal period, the opposition parties retracted nominations for four key seats across local elections.
In the Zilla Parishad, Amarjit Das of the Congress and Pradip Kumar Das of the Left Front both withdrew their candidacies. Amarjit Das, who was vying for seat No. 13, and Pradip Kumar Das, a candidate for seat No. 11, submitted their withdrawal papers to Returning Officer Abhiram Debbarma on Saturday morning. Both cited family and health issues as the reasons for their withdrawal.
At the Panchayat Samiti level, CPIM candidates Pramila Tanti and Sukhmoy Das also withdrew their nominations. Tanti, who was running for seat No. 9, and Das, contesting for seat No. 10, handed in their withdrawal forms to Returning Officer Abhijit Das.
The withdrawals mark a significant shift in the local electoral landscape as the opposition adjusts its strategies ahead of the elections.
