Panisagar Subdivision Records 2,243.739 MT Annual Fish Production

Agartala, 10th July 2025:   The current fish production of Panisagar sub-division stands at 2,243.739 metric tons annually, with an average productivity of 2,692 kilograms per hectare per year.

The Panisagar Fisheries Department celebrated National Fishermen’s Day with a day-long workshop at the Fish Culture Knowledge Center within the department’s office premises on Wednesday at 11 am.

The program was formally inaugurated by Binoy Bhushan Das, MLA of Panisagar, who lit the ceremonial lamp. The event was presided over by Anuradha Das, Chairperson of Panisagar Nagar Panchayat. Among other dignitaries present were Dhananjay Deb Nath, Vice Chairman of Panisagar Nagar Panchayat; Sanjay Das, Chairman of Panisagar Panchayat Samiti; and Kamal Hussain, Fisheries Supervisor, who delivered the welcome address.

Over 100 fish farmers from the Panisagar and Damchara blocks participated in the workshop, which aimed to promote self-reliance among fish farmers through the adoption of modern fish farming techniques.

During the workshop, public representatives and fisheries officials held meaningful discussions on ways to improve the livelihoods of fishers in the region. The officials urged farmers to utilize schemes under the State and Central Fisheries Projects to boost productivity using scientific and sustainable methods.

As part of the event, successful fish farmers were recognized for their efforts. Subrata Das Talukdar from Panisagar block received the first prize for highest fish production in wetland areas, while Prakash Marak from Damchara block received the second prize.

According to data shared by the department, Panisagar Subdivision has 4,817 active fish farmers cultivating a total water area of 833.29 hectares. The current fish production stands at 2,243.739 metric tons annually, with an average productivity of 2,692 kilograms per hectare per year.

In the second half of the program, a hands-on training session was conducted by Fisheries Supervisor Kamal Hussain and other experts, focusing on advanced aquaculture practices. The session was well-received by participants, who lauded the department’s initiative to enhance fish farming capabilities across the subdivision.
