Parents Forced to Bury Two Sons Three Years Apart, Grief Engulfs Melaghar

Date:

Agartala, 8th September 2026 :  A pall of grief has descended on Melaghar after a family was struck by tragedy for the second time in just three years, with a grieving couple losing both their sons to untimely deaths.

Malek Mia and his wife, residents of Melaghar Char, are struggling to come to terms with the loss of their elder son, 39-year-old Jahangir Hossain, who died while undergoing treatment at the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital after suffering a sudden stroke.

Jahangir was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition after suffering the stroke. Despite medical efforts, he died while undergoing treatment. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters, who have now been left without their father.

The latest tragedy has reopened an old wound for the family. Three years ago, Malek Mia’s younger son, 32-year-old Monir Hossain, died after suffering from dengue.

The family had been trying to cope with the devastating loss of Monir when tragedy struck again, leaving the elderly parents to mourn the deaths of both their sons.

The deaths have plunged the entire Melaghar Char area into mourning. The cries of the grieving parents and Jahangir’s two young daughters have added to the sombre atmosphere.

For the elderly couple, who had hoped that their sons would stand by them in their later years, losing both children within a span of three years has been an unbearable blow. Local residents and relatives have expressed deep sorrow over the family’s tragic fate, saying that no words of consolation can ease their pain at this moment.
