Agartala, November 11: A patient who had received the vaccine from IGM Hospital died on Friday night after being refused entry to the emergency department by a security guard.
The patient’s son alleged that his father, Samu Mia, 63, had breathing problems and needed urgent medical attention. However, the security guard stopped them at the door and told them to wait for their turn.
The son claimed that there were three doctors inside the emergency department, but none of them came out to see his father. Instead, they sent an oxygen mask from the fifth floor of the hospital, which arrived too late to save the patient’s life.
The incident sparked outrage among the patient’s family members, who accused the security guard and the doctors of negligence and inhumanity.
They also alleged that this was not the first time that such a thing had happened in the state’s hospitals, where private security guards act like police constables and treat the patients and their families with disrespect. They demanded action against the security guard company and the hospital authorities.
The situation became tense as the family members protested outside the hospital. The police and CRPF jawans from West police station arrived at the scene and tried to calm them down. They assured them that the matter would be investigated and justice would be done.
However, the health officials of the state did not show up at the scene or give any statement on the issue. The accused security guard fled from the scene to avoid confrontation. The hospital doctors also remained silent on the matter.
It is unclear whether any action will be taken against the culprits or whether the patient’s death will be another case of medical negligence that goes unpunished.
