Agartala, 24th December 2024:  The Pradesh Congress Committee today staged protests across the state against the purported derogatory remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

In response, the Pradesh Congress launched a strong protest, accusing the Union Home Minister of insulting both Dr. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution.

On Tuesday, the Sadar District Congress organized a Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Yatra from the Pradesh Congress Bhavan to express their dissent. Provincial Congress President Prabir Chakraborty, Youth Congress President Neelkamal Saha, and other senior party leaders led the march.

Addressing the crowd, Neelkamal Saha condemned Shah’s remarks, stating, “By making such a harsh comment in Parliament, the Union Home Minister has disrespected Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Constitution he authored. This is unacceptable, and we demand his immediate resignation, along with a public apology to the nation.”

The Khowai Block Congress also initiated a deputation to the Khowai district’s District Magistrate, Chandni Chandran, on Tuesday, demanding an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his derogatory remarks against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the author of the Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna awardee. The remarks have sparked widespread anger among the people and the Congress party.

The protest procession, organized by the Khowai District Congress, began on Tuesday afternoon and featured a banner for the Samman Yatra to honor Dr. Ambedkar. The procession included Teliamura District Congress Committee President Pradyut Bhattacharya, Shabda Kumar Jamatia, Congress state committee member Kartik Debnath, lawyer Nanigopal Debnath, and numerous party workers and supporters.

Following the procession, a deputation was submitted to Khowai’s District Magistrate, Chandni Chandran. Teliamura Block Congress President Pradyut Bhattacharya explained the purpose of the deputation, stating, “The Indian National Congress is protesting and submitting deputations across the state and country against the derogatory statements made about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. As part of this, the Khowai District Congress is presenting a deputation to the Khowai District Magistrate.” Similar protests were also held in Udaipur.
