Petrol bombs and arson target BJP leaders’ residences in Tripura

Date:

Agartala, 18th April 2026:   Serious allegations have emerged in Amtali’s Golaghati constituency, Bathanmura area, where the home of BJP booth president Sanjit Debbarma was allegedly set on fire. Family members claim that supporters of the Motha party were involved in the attack, which has sparked widespread tension in the locality.

According to reports, miscreants poured petrol and ignited flames at the residence of Sanjit Debbarma, president of Booth No. 8 under Amtali Golaghati constituency. At the time, Debbarma, his wife Golapi Debbarma, and their four-year-old child, Pira Debbarma, were inside the house. Allegations suggest the attack was carried out by a group celebrating their victory.

Debbarma stated that as the fire spread rapidly, he escaped with his wife and child, sustaining burn injuries, and fled into the nearby forest. The blaze destroyed doors, windows, furniture, and parts of the family’s temple. Neighbors later rushed to control the fire.

On Saturday morning, Debbarma condemned the incident publicly, questioned the role of the administration, and demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits. Police sources confirmed that an investigation has been launched and the situation is being closely monitored.

In a separate incident late Friday night, BJP worker Suresh Debbarma’s home in Pushkarbari, Bishramganj, was allegedly attacked by Motha supporters. Reports claim six to seven petrol bombs were hurled at his residence, accompanied by slingshot assaults, creating panic across the area.

Suresh Debbarma alleged that attackers damaged the main gate, tin fencing, and caused extensive destruction to a shop inside his home. He accused Motha supporters of orchestrating the violence and criticized the administration, questioning the safety of ordinary citizens.

Local police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control, though it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made. Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway to identify and take action against those responsible.

Both incidents have triggered widespread unrest and fear in the affected areas. Residents have expressed concern over escalating violence, while police maintain that investigations are ongoing and necessary measures will be taken against the perpetrators.
