Agartala, 18th April 2026: nFood, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday reiterated the government’s commitment to fortifying the state’s public distribution system (PDS). He emphasized that the department is dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of the PDS reach every section of society, making it more robust and people-oriented.
Speaking at a high-level review meeting convened today at the Secretariat’s conference hall, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the supply of essential commodities. The meeting was attended by the department’s secretary, director, and other senior officials.
The agenda included a comprehensive review of the current stock of essential items such as petrol, diesel, and LPG in the state, alongside discussions on the distribution of goods through ration shops. Minister Chowdhury underscored the importance of ensuring that common people have easy access to essential commodities and directed officials to take necessary measures to guarantee smooth supply.
He stated, “The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is committed to making the public distribution system stronger and more people-centric. We are working tirelessly to ensure that essential commodities reach every household effectively.”
The Minister also provided detailed guidance and recommendations to officials, stressing the need for vigilance and efficiency in maintaining adequate reserves and facilitating uninterrupted distribution. The review meeting concluded with directives aimed at safeguarding consumer interests and reinforcing the state’s supply chain mechanisms.
