Agartala, 22nd July 2024: In a move to revitalize one of the capital’s oldest and busiest markets, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder on Monday announced a elaborate plan to modernize the Border Golchakkar Bazar. This initiative aims to address long-standing issues and enhance the market’s functionality.
During a visit to the market on Monday morning, Mayor Majumder held a meeting with local residents and the market committee to discuss the advantages and disadvantages currently faced by the market. Following the meeting, he spoke to the media, outlining the municipality’s vision for modernization.
“Agartala Municipal Corporation has been contemplating the modernization of various markets across the city. The Border Golchakkar Bazar, due to its historical and economic significance is a priority,” said Majumder. He emphasized that despite significant financial investments over the years, the market has struggled with poor planning and unresolved issues, hampering the traders’ ability to conduct business effectively.
Majumder revealed that the modernization plan would be scientifically designed, focusing on infrastructure improvements, better layout, and enhanced facilities. “Our goal is to develop the market in a way that benefits both traders and customers. We are considering all aspects to ensure a smooth and efficient marketplace,” he stated.
One of the key features of the modernization plan is the construction of a light house in the area, which is expected to boost the market’s activity further. “With these upgrades, the Border Golchakkar Bazar will become even busier and more vibrant. Traders will have better business opportunities, and buyers will find it easier to shop,” Majumder added.
The visit was also attended by Corporation Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav and the local councilor, highlighting the administration’s commitment to addressing the market’s needs comprehensively. Mayor Majumder expressed confidence that the modernization efforts would resolve the existing problems and pave the way for a more prosperous future for the market and its stakeholders.
