Agartala, 3rd May 2026: In a bid to protect the environment and promote cleanliness, the Gournagar RD Block has rolled out a new initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) to manage plastic waste. Special disposal boxes are being distributed across all market areas to ensure proper collection and storage of plastic waste.
The programme was formally inaugurated at Tilla Bazar this morning. Local representatives and block officials handed over the waste boxes to market traders in the presence of Congress youth leader Jubair Ahmed Khan, Panchayat member Sirajul Islam, and several other elected members.
According to block authorities, ten boxes will be installed in each market area, with a target of distributing nearly 400 boxes in total. Additionally, every educational institution within the block will receive one box to encourage students to adopt clean practices and raise awareness about waste management.
Speaking at the launch, Gournagar RD Block Chairman Md. Badruzzaman urged traders and residents to use the designated boxes exclusively for plastic waste. “This will significantly reduce environmental pollution,” he said, adding that collected waste will later be transported by vehicles to designated tanks for processing.
The initiative, which began at Tilla Bazar, will gradually extend to Babur Bazar, Irani Bazar, Rangauti, and other market areas within the block.
Local residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the administration’s efforts will lead to a cleaner, healthier environment and bring about lasting positive change.
