Agartala, 5th September 2025:   With Durga Puja approaching, the police administration has intensified its crackdown on anti-social activities in the city. Goala Basti, a known hotspot in Agartala, came under the scanner on Friday as police, assisted by TSR and CRPF, carried out an extensive raid in the area.

According to sources, Goala Basti has long been identified as a hub of drug abuse, theft, and other criminal activities, with many local youths directly involved. Despite having information and lists of suspects, regular raids have been sparse in the past, allowing the menace to thrive.

During Friday’s operation, the police seized a large number of empty brown sugar containers along with five unregistered motorbikes, suspected to be linked with criminal activities. Two persons were detained on suspicion and will be interrogated at the NCC police station, said the Officer-in-Charge.

Officials noted that Goala Basti has become a key supply point for narcotics smuggled into different parts of the city. The area has also witnessed the recovery of firearms in recent days, raising further concerns about law and order.

The administration emphasized that maintaining strict vigilance in sensitive zones like Goala Basti is essential to ensuring a peaceful and safe Durga Puja for city residents.
