Police seize 230 kgs of cannabis worth Rs 70 lakh at Kamalpur drug bust

Agartala, 23rd August 2025:   Acting on a tip-off, Kamalpur police conducted a high-stakes operation in the Upper Saika area today intercepting a vehicle suspected of transporting illegal narcotics. The raid led to the recovery of 230 kilograms of cannabis packed in 72 bundles with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 70 lakh.

According to a senior police official, intelligence was received indicating that a consignment of cannabis was en route from Agartala towards Kamalpur via the Durgachowmuhani checkpoint. In response, police launched a targeted operation to intercept the vehicle. However, sensing the crackdown, the driver managed to evade capture, abandoning the vehicle near Upper Saika and fleeing the scene.

Despite the suspect’s escape, law enforcement successfully seized the contraband from the abandoned vehicle. Authorities have intensified efforts to trace the driver and uncover the broader network behind the smuggling attempt.

The Kamalpur police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
