Agartala: June 09. Tripura Police on Thursday late night seized huge cache of banned cough syrups of Rs 3 crore from Ushabazar.
Speaking on the issue, New Capital Complex, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Parmita Pandey said that yesterday late night they had received a information about a suspicious lorry that was parked in the Ushabazar area.
“We had received information that in Chinaihani area near Ushabazar one lorry was parked near the road in a suspicious condition. Soon we have received the information the police personnel from Airport Police Station along with BSF personnel carried out a joint operation and detained the lorry. When we searched the lorry no one was there however the truck was bearing the registration number to West Bengal”, said the SDPO.
She said that when they searched the lorry, initially they have found sacks full of maize but when they removed all this sacked, police have seized huge cache of illegal cough syrups.
“We have seized around 84, 800 bottles of Eskuf banned cough syrup and market value would be around Rs 3 crore in the black market. Further investigation is going on”, said the cop.
Earlier on Thursday the police has arrested 10 persons and seized contraband items worth Rs 6 lakh in West District.
