Political Violence Reflects Weakness, Not Strength: Manik Sarkar

Date:

Agartala, 19th May 2026:  Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday condemned political violence and said that attacking opponents can never help any political party grow stronger.

Sarkar made the statement after visiting the residence of CPIM leader Tapan Das in Jirania, where miscreants allegedly vandalized property during a recent incident.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the damaged house, Sarkar expressed concern over the attack and described it as politically motivated. He recalled the long association of Tapan Das’s family with the Left movement in the area and praised the family’s contribution to helping people irrespective of political beliefs.

He also mentioned reports that some leaders and workers of the ruling party later visited the family, expressed regret over the incident, and offered support for repairing the damaged property.

According to Sarkar, democracy should be based on peaceful political activities and mutual respect among people with different ideologies. He said violence only exposes insecurity and weakness rather than political strength.

He further appealed to the people of Jirania to maintain peace, unity, and harmony despite political differences.
