Power crisis at Khowai: Residents submit memorandum demanding permanent solution

Date:

Agartala, 27th April 2026:   Mounting frustration over erratic electricity supply has prompted residents of Acharya Para in Singichhara Pacs Bazar, Khowai subdivision, to formally lodge a memorandum with the power department.

Locals allege that frequent load-shedding and irregular service have severely disrupted daily life. A newly installed transformer reportedly broke down within a short period due to a short circuit, leaving the area dependent on a faulty line that runs through dense forest. Residents say even minor storms or strong winds cause branches to fall on the wires, leading to repeated outages.

The situation is particularly dire at night and during extreme heat, with families enduring prolonged blackouts. Concerns have also been raised about the risk of accidents from the defective line.

Adding to the anger, residents claim that while influential households in the same locality enjoy uninterrupted power through separate connections, ordinary consumers—despite paying bills regularly—are deprived of reliable service. “How can there be two types of electricity supply in one area? This is sheer discrimination,” one resident remarked.

Despite repeated verbal complaints, no permanent solution has been implemented. On Monday afternoon, community representatives submitted a memorandum to the senior manager of the power department, urging immediate investigation and lasting remedial measures.

The residents now await the department’s response, hoping for decisive action to end years of hardship and restore fairness in electricity distribution.
