Agartala, 30th November 2024:    Agartala witnessed a wave of patriotic fervor on Saturday as citizens protested outside the ILS Hospital, condemning the insult to the Indian national flag in Bangladesh. The protesters demanded an immediate halt to medical services for Bangladeshi patients at the hospital.

In response to the escalating demonstrations, Gautam Hazarika, representing the ILS Hospital management, assured the crowd that the facility would no longer provide services to Bangladeshi citizens. “We have heard the sentiments of the people, and we assure you that no medical services will be extended to Bangladeshi patients from now on,” Hazarika stated.

As a direct consequence of the protest, the help desk established specifically for Bangladeshi patients was officially closed on Saturday. Reports suggest that Bangladeshi patients had already ceased visiting the hospital in recent days, but the formal shutdown marks a significant shift in policy.

The closure comes amid a broader context where many Bangladeshi nationals travel to the state daily for medical treatment. Protesters argued that actions by a few individuals should not tarnish relations, yet felt compelled to act against perceived disrespect to India’s sovereignty.

However, the prolonged demonstration disrupted hospital operations, causing significant inconvenience to other patients. Several visitors expressed frustration over the delays and the impact on essential medical services.
