Agartala, October 17, 2023: A deeply disturbing incident involving the alleged torture of a 15-year-old minor, identified by the name ‘Shuddhikaran,’ has shocked the community and sparked widespread outrage. In response to this heinous act, the All India Democratic Women’s Association staged a protest, demanding immediate action following a thorough investigation into the matter.
The shocking event took place within the confines of a prominent individual’s residence in Sabroom, where a horrifying act of torture was reportedly inflicted upon a class 9 student from the Bardowali area of Agartala, under the guise of a ritual purification known as ‘Shuddhikaran.’
The harrowing experience pushed the young victim to the brink of despair, prompting contemplation of suicide. Consequently, the minor was rushed to Calcutta for urgent medical treatment due to severe injuries and illness, unfortunately succumbing to the trauma.
Expressing their profound concern and seeking justice for the minor, the All India Democratic Women’s Association vehemently protested the incident, condemning the alleged involvement of a racial leader in the grotesque act. The organization has demanded a thorough investigation and appropriate action against the perpetrators.
Significantly, the Association highlighted an apparent lack of involvement by the State Women’s Commission in addressing this sensational case. In a bold display of disapproval, the Democratic Women’s Association of Tripura State Committee staged a demonstration in front of the Women’s Commission on Tuesday, demanding accountability and urging immediate action. Subsequently, they submitted a formal deputation to the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, urging intervention and swift resolution in this distressing case.
