Protest march in city against Transgender Bill, demand for review

Date:

Agartala, 18th April 2026:   Members of the transgender community took to the streets on Friday to protest against the recently passed Transgender Bill in Parliament. The demonstration began at Swami Vivekananda Maidan and soon spread across several key roads in the city.

Participants voiced strong dissatisfaction with multiple provisions of the legislation, alleging that it fails to adequately safeguard the rights, dignity, and social security of transgender persons. Protesters demanded that the bill be reconsidered and revised to reflect the lived realities and concerns of the community.

Chanting slogans, the marchers made their demands clear to the administration, stressing that any law concerning transgender citizens must be drafted with their direct input and experiences in mind.

The protest drew curious onlookers along the route, while authorities deployed necessary measures to ensure the situation remained peaceful.
