Agartala, August 26, 2023: Locals in the Shantirbazar sub-division have voiced their dissatisfaction over the construction work being carried out at the West Bagafa 12th Standard School, alleging poor work quality. This discontent has escalated to the point where residents have been compelled to halt the ongoing construction efforts.
The incident unfolded in the Kanchan Nagar area of the sub-division, where the foundation stone for a new school building was originally laid by the then Education Minister, Ratanlal Nath. The responsibility for overseeing this construction work was entrusted to the Village Development Department.
Complaints began to surface early on, with allegations that the contractor responsible for the project had initiated work of substandard quality right from the outset. Local residents reportedly protested against these alleged shortcomings, but their grievances appeared to fall on deaf ears.
The construction work, which some locals claim continued even during the night hours, was met with widespread dissatisfaction. Consequently, on Saturday, the local community felt compelled to intervene and cease the construction efforts.
Chief Engineer involved in the project has acknowledged the reported lapses in the welding work. While the Chief Minister has been vocal about zero tolerance for corruption, complaints concerning irregularities in government projects persist. The outcome now rests on the actions taken by the relevant authorities in response to these concerns.
