Agartala, 7th June 2026: With municipal elections expected later this year, the ruling party faces mounting challenges. In response, party leaders are increasingly visible on the ground, addressing public grievances. On Sunday, Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee assured residents of Vidyasagar area that a switch gate would be constructed to tackle long-standing waterlogging issues.
The drainage channel running from Bonkumari through Vidyasagar into the Howrah River has been a source of distress for locals. During monsoon, river water flows back through the drain, inundating the market and surrounding areas. Residents have suffered this recurring problem for years.
After inspecting the site, Bhattacharjee stated that fulfilling the residents’ demand for a switch gate would significantly reduce the water crisis. He promised that necessary steps would be taken to implement the project.
On the same day, the MP also visited the proposed site for a ward office and inspected the designated area for a vendor zone in Vidyasagar. He was accompanied by Ward No. 30 Corporator Pintu Ranjan Das and several local residents.
