Rajnagar JB School students stage blockade, demand construction of boundary wall

Agartala, July 03, 2023: Rajnagar JB School, located in Jubarajnagar assembly constituency near the alternative national highway, has been facing issues due to the road construction work. The school’s kitchen and toilet were damaged during the construction process by the agency responsible for the road work. Despite promises made by the agency’s contractor in the presence of Uttar Zilla Parishad to build a concrete wall around the school boundary, no progress has been made even after several months.

The school authorities had erected a boundary made of tin, but the agency refused to pave it, claiming it was unnecessary. As a result, two students recently fell and broke their hands due to the inadequate boundary. Ajit Nath, chairman of the school’s SMC committee, has repeatedly approached Jubarajnagar school inspector Simanta Pal to address the issue, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Frustrated by the lack of action, the school students staged a blockade on the main road of Dharmanagar-Kailashahar city on Monday. School inspector Simanta Pal intervened and assured the students that the school wall and toilet would be constructed soon. After blocking the road for over half an hour, the students lifted the blockade based on the inspector’s assurance.

It is concerning to note that the absence of toilets in the school has led students to take leave and go home for urgent needs. The deteriorating condition of the school continues to persist, and both the school inspector and the chairman of the SMC committee have demanded swift action to construct the necessary facilities, including the boundary, kitchen, and toilets. Furthermore, it has been reported that the agency has yet to pay the department for the land acquired for the road construction.
