Agartala, 18th March 2026: BJP MLA Rampada Jamatia was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly on the fourth day of the ongoing session.
The election process was conducted by Acting Speaker Ramprasad Paul, who informed the House that three separate proposals had been submitted in support of Jamatia’s candidature. The first proposal was moved by Chief Minister Manik Saha and seconded by MLA Swapna Das Paul. Another proposal came from Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, backed by Tipra Motha MLA Chitta Ranjan Debbarma. The third proposal was moved by Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia and supported by Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy.
After reviewing all proposals, the motion was placed before the Assembly. With no opposing candidates or objections, Rampada Jamatia was declared elected as Speaker unanimously.
Jamatia had submitted his nomination papers a day earlier to Assembly Secretary A.K. Nath.
Following his election, he received congratulations from several leaders, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and Congress MLA Birajit Sinha.
