Agartala, 23rd October 2024: A convict serving a sentence for rape at the Central Correctional Home in Bishalgarh, Tripura’s Sepahijala District, was found dead today, having apparently taken his own life by hanging inside a toilet.
Speaking to reporters, Bishalgarh Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dulal Datta confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased as Dilip Debbarma, who had been serving a 12-year sentence for rape.
“The Sub-divisional Magistrate of Bishalgarh informed us about the incident. Upon receiving the information, we immediately rushed to the site. The deceased, Dilip Debbarma, was a resident of Jirania in Tripura’s West District. He had served 10 years of his sentence, with only two years left to complete,” SDPO Datta stated.An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death has been launched.
