Rare endangered monkeys rescued at Kamalpur

Agartala, 19th April 2025:  Dhalai district witnessed a stir this morning as three rare species of shy monkeys listed as internationally endangered were rescued from the Noagaon Ami Tilla area of Kamalpur subdivision.

According to locals, the monkeys were first spotted in a rubber plantation in the morning. Concerned residents promptly informed the Forest department, which swiftly dispatched officials to the site. The team successfully rescued the animals, identified as shy monkeys of a rare and endangered species.

Speaking on the matter, a Forest department official noted, “This type of monkey is very rare in our state. We are investigating how they came here. Arrangements have been made for their treatment and observation under the custody of the forest department.”

The rescue operation has generated significant curiosity among residents, who lauded the forest department for its quick and efficient action. Experts emphasized the importance of public awareness in protecting forest animals and fostering conservation efforts.
