Agartala, August 05: The State Government is taking significant steps to enhance electricity services and ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers. As part of this initiative, the number of Divisional Offices of the Electricity Department is being increased across the state. Infrastructure development is also being prioritized to maintain a steady supply of electricity. Power Minister Ratanlal Nath announced this while inaugurating the Ranirbazar Electric Division office at Dhaan Chowmuhani in Ranirbazar on Saturday.
Minister Nath highlighted that the Ranirbazar Electric Division office has been established by transforming seven subdivisions that were previously under the Jirania Division Office. Now, with Khayerpur, Ranirbazar, and Bodhjungnagar subdivisions being included, the new office is expected to cater to the growing demand for electricity in the region.
Addressing the audience, Minister Nath emphasized that the increasing demand for electricity is a direct result of the improved standard of living among people. To meet this demand, the state government is undertaking the process of reorganizing the power plant and modernizing electricity services. The implementation of underground power lines has already begun in Agartala Municipal Corporation area and will be extended to every Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat in the state gradually. This move is expected to reduce disruptions in power supply during adverse weather conditions like rainstorms.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve power services, including the installation of new transformers and providing free electricity connections to economically weaker sections under the Saubhagya Yojana in small towns.
Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, present at the event, underscored the crucial role of electricity in development and expressed the government’s commitment to providing reliable electricity services to every corner of the state without raising tariffs. The inauguration of the Ranirbazar Electric Division office fulfilled a long-standing demand of the local people, indicating the government’s dedication to the development of electricity services.
Debashis Sarkar, MD of TSECL, delivered the welcome speech, and several dignitaries, including Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Manju Das, Ranirbazar Municipal Council Chairperson Aparna Sur Das, Vice-Chairperson Prabir Kumar Das, philanthropist Gaurang Bhowmik, and others were present at the event. SS Dogra, Director (Finance) of TSECL, gave the vote of thanks.
After the ceremony, the guests unveiled the plaque of the Ranirbazar Electric Division Office and inspected the newly established office. The commitment of the current Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and the State Electricity Department to improve electricity infrastructure while not burdening consumers with additional costs has been appreciated, and the local residents have already started experiencing the benefits of these efforts.
