Remembering Gurudev: A BTVM tribute

Agartala, 9th May 2026:   Bhavan’s Tripura Vidya Mandir (BTVM) celebrated the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore through a week-long Rabindra Utsav culminating on 9th May 2026 with great enthusiasm and cultural spirit. The celebration included competitions such as solo song, dance, recitation, drama, fusion dance, and extempore speech, where students actively participated and showcased their talents.

The celebration was conducted in two shifts morning and day-shift programmes.

In the morning shift, the distinguished guest was renowned Rabindra Sangeet artist from Doordarshan, Mili Saha. The programme began with floral tribute to the portraits of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Students paid tribute to Gurudev through soulful songs and graceful dance performances. Prizes were also distributed among the winners of various competitions conducted throughout the week.

The day-shift programme commenced with an instrumental presentation followed by the welcome of guests and floral tributes. The Principal, Smt. Swapna Shome, delivered the welcome address, highlighting Tagore’s contribution to literature and culture. The programme featured group songs, recitation, solo and duet dances, fusion dance, and the special presentation Nritya Alokhya – Priyo Ritu Bharsha. Prizes were distributed by the dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Chandan Lekha Pal, eminent dramatist, writer, and news reader of Doordarshan and Akashbani.

The President of the programme, Debashis Chakraborty, Retired IFS, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Agartala Kendra, addressed the gathering and spoke about the timeless relevance of Rabindranath Tagore’s ideals and the importance of preserving India’s rich cultural heritage.

The celebration concluded with the National Anthem, leaving everyone inspired by the ideals and creativity of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
