Agartala, 24th June 2024 : Residents across Pratyek Rai Gram Panchayat staged a road blockade demanding proper road infrastructure and adequate water supply. The protest specifically targeted the main roads connecting Pratyek Rai to Nutan Bazar and Kalacherra.
Residents of Ward No. 5 in Pratyek Rai Gram Panchayat have been without road works or a proper water supply for nearly a century. Their sole water sources are river water or private ponds. Additionally, the area suffers from persistent electricity issues. Despite numerous complaints to the local corporation, promises of resolving the electricity problems have remained unfulfilled.
The protest saw significant participation from both men and women in Ward Nos. 4 and 5 of Pratyek Rai Gram Panchayat affecting 40 to 50 families. Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded as protesters blocked the roads causing major disruptions. The local police were dispatched to the scene but were unable to resolve the situation.
The dire state of the roads, coupled with ongoing water and electricity shortages, has made daily life extremely difficult for the residents. Frustrated by the lack of action, the community decided to take a stand through this road blockade.
