BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 3rd October 2023 :Frustrated by prolonged neglect, the residents of Chawmanu Debendra Para in Longtorai valley subdivision took to the streets, blocking the Manu-Chawmanu road today.

Their demands encompassed the construction of a vital bridge, resolution of electricity and drinking water crises plaguing the region.

For an extended period, inhabitants of the area have grappled with acute shortages in drinking water and unreliable electricity supply. The absence of a bridge over the Manu river has further compounded their woes, hampering essential transportation, especially in emergencies.

Despite numerous appeals to local representatives and authorities, the concerns of Debendra Para’s populace remained unaddressed. This persistent negligence prompted the community to take drastic action to draw attention to their plight.

In a show of solidarity, both local residents and supporters of the ruling parties BJP and ADC, joined forces to amplify their message. The road blockade was a resounding call for immediate action, warning of potential electoral repercussions if their demands were not met.

As the blockade stretched into hours, several high-ranking officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Longtorai valley sub-divisional office, rushed to the site. They assured the protesting residents that steps would be taken promptly to address their grievances.

In response to the assurances from the administration, the residents have agreed to lift the blockade. However, the critical question now looms over the actual implementation of the promised solutions.

The day of protest also saw locals call for a vote boycott, underscoring their exasperation with the lack of attention from elected representatives, including MLAs and Ministers, as well as the revered Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.

While the blockade has been disbanded for now, residents remain resolute in their pursuit of a better quality of life. The coming days could witness a resurgence of the movement should progress stall.
