Rise in Thefts Ahead of Durga Puja in Agartala; Police Arrest Seven

Agartala, 2nd October 2024:  In the lead-up to the Durga Puja festivities, the city of Agartala has witnessed a rise in theft-related crimes. However, swift action by the West Agartala Police Station has led to the arrest of seven individuals involved in these criminal activities.

Addressing the media at a press conference on Wednesday, Sadar Divisional Police Officer Debaprasad Roy revealed that thefts have been occurring across the city over the past few days. Following an intense investigation, several suspects were identified. In response, the officers-in-charge of both East and West Agartala police stations were instructed to form a dedicated task force to track and apprehend the culprits.

The operation resulted in the arrest of seven thieves on Tuesday. Police recovered various tools used in the thefts, along with a significant amount of stolen goods. The arrested individuals are all residents of different parts of Agartala but are part of the same criminal group.

The suspects were presented in court on Wednesday, where police sought their remand for further interrogation and investigation. With heightened security measures now in place, authorities are working to ensure a safe Durga Puja celebration for the residents of Agartala.
