Rising crime concerns on Khayerpur–Malanagar road

Date:

Agartala, 21st July 2026;   . Residents and commuters along the Khayerpur–Malanagar road have raised serious concerns over increasing incidents of robbery and snatching, both in broad daylight and under the cover of darkness. Victims allege that groups of unruly youths lie in wait at roadside corners, targeting vehicles and pedestrians, particularly students, and looting valuables at gunpoint or by force.

According to locals, professional snatchers from the city have also joined these gangs, intensifying the menace. The stretch between Khayerpur and the Malanagar police checkpoint has reportedly become a hotspot for such crimes. When unable to overpower vehicles, miscreants allegedly hurl bricks and stones, damaging mirrors and other parts, leaving several passengers injured.

Residents complain that despite repeated appeals, police have failed to take effective action. Allegations have surfaced that certain officers are turning a blind eye, with critics claiming that hefty commissions are being collected from these road mafias. Eyewitnesses further report that gangs chase luxury and goods-laden vehicles using specific cars such as Eeco, WagonR, and Tata Ace, before carrying out lootings.

The public has now demanded heightened security measures and strict intervention to restore safety along this vital road.
