Rs 3,600 power connection payment raises questions at Teliamura

Date:

Agartala, 22nd  August 2026 : Allegations have surfaced against Biswajit Biswas, a Junior Engineer of the Teliamura Electricity Corporation, after a consumer’s family claimed that Rs 3,600 paid for a new electricity connection nearly a year ago was not reflected in official records.

According to Sabita Modak, wife of consumer Khokon Das of Brahmachhara, the family handed over Rs 3,600 to Biswas for a new connection. The connection was subsequently installed at their residence, but no electricity bill was received for almost a year.

Growing suspicious, the family contacted the Teliamura Electricity Corporation’s Division-1 office, where they allegedly learned that no connection in the consumer’s name existed in the official records. Officials later visited the house and disconnected the supply.

The family said they were informed that obtaining a regular connection would require payment of around Rs 10,000 towards accumulated dues. Following discussions, the connection was subsequently regularised after the family reportedly paid Rs 6,000.

Sabita Modak further alleged that when Biswas was questioned about the earlier Rs 3,600 payment, he asked why a complaint had been lodged at the office and reportedly said he could not return the money immediately.

The family has alleged that the initial payment remains unaccounted for and questioned whether any official receipt or departmental record exists for the amount. However, these allegations have not been independently verified.

Local residents have also claimed that other complaints concerning the officer’s conduct and electricity-related services have emerged over time. The allegations, if substantiated, could raise wider questions about transparency and accountability within the department.

The concerned authorities are yet to publicly clarify the matter or announce any formal investigation. A departmental inquiry could establish whether the payment was officially collected, why the connection was allegedly absent from records, and where the ₹3,600 was ultimately accounted for.
