“Why is the Chairperson silent?”: CPI(M) MLA Nirmal Biswas demands probe into cement allegations

Date:

Agartala, 22nd  August 2026 : Allegations of government cement being diverted for the construction of a private residence have triggered political controversy in Khowai, with CPI(M) MLA Nirmal Biswas questioning the alleged silence of the ruling party and demanding an immediate investigation.

According to reports circulating in sections of the media and on social media, cement from a government store was allegedly transported to the Barobil area for use in the construction of the private residence of the Khowai Panchayat Samiti Chairperson. A video purportedly showing the vehicle used to transport the cement has also circulated widely.

Addressing the issue, Nirmal Biswas said more than 48 hours had passed since the allegations emerged, but neither the Chairperson nor the BJP had publicly responded to the matter. He questioned why there had been no clarification despite the seriousness of the allegations.

Biswas said local residents had allegedly been raising concerns about the construction for some time and urged the Khowai RD Block BDO to initiate a proper inquiry. He also called for the matter to be examined at the district and state levels, including by Chief Minister Manik Saha.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that the incident could point to wider irregularities in the handling of government materials, while stressing that the allegations should be properly investigated and verified.

The CPI(M) Khowai Sub-divisional Committee has demanded an immediate probe and called for appropriate action against those found responsible based on the investigation’s findings.
