‘Sanskriti Haat’ to get Rs 50.25 lakh boost for cultural promotion: CM

Agartala, 2nd November 2025 :  Aiming to preserve and promote Bengali culture, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced a one-time financial grant of Rs 50.25 lakh for the development of Sanskriti Haat, an initiative of Bangla Sanskriti Balay.

While attending the celebration of 100th Sanskriti Haat at Senpara in Nandannagar under West Tripura district, CM Dr Saha made this announcement and said that this rural haat reflects the essence of cultural unity and social bonding, providing not only entertainment but also livelihood opportunities for local families. Around 40–50 households are currently benefiting through Self Help Groups associated with the initiative.

Highlighting the government’s support, Dr. Saha stated that the fund would be disbursed to the Old Agartala Block through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) for infrastructure and community development. He added that the state is committed to reviving and preserving its traditional culture while encouraging the youth to engage in cultural activities.

The Chief Minister also emphasized that several steps are being undertaken by the state government to rejuvenate lost traditions and heritage.

The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tonku Roy, local MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, and Sebak Bhattacharjee of Bangla Sanskriti Boloy.

The celebration featured a series of captivating dance performances showcasing the vibrancy of Bengali culture, earning widespread appreciation from the audience.

Modelled after the famous Sonajhuri Haat of Shantiniketan, the weekly Sanskriti Haat has already gained significant popularity among people in the region.
