Santirbazar’s Post Office faces customer outrage over poor service and staff absences

Agartala, 4th November 2024:   The Santirbazar’s post office on Monday has come under fire as customers complain of delayed services, largely due to the consistent late arrival of staff. Frustrated customers describe the service as having “reached rock bottom,” pointing to ongoing issues with staff punctuality and a perceived decline in commitment to customer service.

In past years, post office employees would deliver letters and packages directly to people’s doors. However, as one customer noted, “Now in the digital age, you get a call to pick up your letter or parcel from the post office instead.” Although government-backed savings schemes have aimed to attract customers, poor service and staff absences appear to be driving people away.

Monday’s incident was particularly troubling for many customers, as the workweek began with the office failing to open on time. The post’s cashier, Shankar Das, who is reportedly a local resident, was again late. Customers allege that Das regularly arrives late and often treats clients poorly. “We’re tired of waiting around, day after day, with no explanation,” one customer told the media.

When questioned about Das’ absence, other office staff were unable to provide a clear reason. This left customers, some of whom had waited for hours, visibly frustrated. “We deserve better service. This isn’t the first time; it’s just become routine,” another customer remarked.

The post office department has yet to respond, but residents are urging them to take steps to improve the situation. With dissatisfaction growing, all eyes are now on the department to see if they will implement reforms to ensure reliable, punctual service for Santirbazar customers.
