Security breach during PM Modi’s visit to Mata Tripura Sundari temple: MLA Abhishek Debroy enters restricted zone

Agartala, 22nd September 2025:   A major security lapse took place today during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the historic Matabari temple in Udaipur, as local MLA Abhishek Debroy allegedly breached the security perimeter with a group of supporters, defying barricades and police warnings.

The incident took place in the afternoon while the Prime Minister was engaged in religious rituals inside the temple premises. Eyewitnesses and security officials claim that despite repeated instructions to halt, MLA Debroy forcefully entered the restricted zone with his followers. A video circulating on social media shows police officers pleading with folded hands attempting to stop the legislator.

Sources indicate that the breach was initiated by BJP MLA Jitendra Majumdar from Kakraban-Shalgara constituency, who first broke through the barricades with his supporters. Debroy reportedly followed suit shortly after. While police failed to restrain Majumdar, they were able to intercept Debroy before he reached the Prime Minister’s immediate vicinity.

Security experts have expressed grave concern over the incident, calling it a serious violation of protocol. “Every movement during a Prime Ministerial visit is tightly monitored. Such unauthorized entry points to a critical failure in the security apparatus,” said one analyst.

Despite the breach, security forces refrained from using force such as batons or water cannons, fearing escalation. However, the incident has raised questions about the preparedness and response of the local administration. As of now, no official statement has been issued regarding any legal or disciplinary action against those involved.

Political circles are abuzz with speculation, and sources suggest that central security agencies may launch an investigation. If the Special Protection Group (SPG) expresses dissatisfaction over the breach, future visits by the Prime Minister to religious sites could face stricter protocols and added complications.

MLA Abhishek Debroy has not commented on the incident. Meanwhile, the episode has stirred significant unrest within the state administration and BJP leadership, with calls for accountability and a thorough review of security measures.
