Agartala, 14th September 2026 : With the September 28 Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) drawing closer, the State Election Commission and Tripura Police on Monday held a high-level review meeting to assess security preparedness and the law-and-order situation across the state.
The meeting was conducted through video conference and was chaired by State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty. Director General of Police G.S. Rao, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Ipper Manchak and State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen attended the meeting.
District Election Officers, including District Magistrates and Collectors, along with Superintendents of Police from different districts, also participated in the discussion.
The State Election Commission, in a post on social media, said the meeting focused on the prevailing law-and-order situation, security deployment, administrative preparedness and other issues related to the forthcoming elections.
The officials discussed measures required to ensure that polling is conducted in a peaceful, secure and orderly environment. Directions were issued to the concerned authorities to strengthen coordination between the administration and police and make adequate security arrangements for the polling process.
The TTAADC Village Committee elections are scheduled for September 28, while counting of votes will be held on October 5.
The polls will cover 587 Village Committees, comprising 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats across the tribal council areas.
According to the latest figures released by the State Election Commission, 9,820 candidates remain in the electoral contest.
During the withdrawal period, 1,069 candidates withdrew their nominations. These included 105 BJP candidates, 302 CPI(M) candidates, 39 Congress candidates, 12 IPFT candidates, 80 Tipra Motha Party candidates and one CPI candidate.
Besides, 414 candidates belonging to other political parties and independent candidates also withdrew their candidature.
With polling day approaching, the authorities are focusing on ensuring close coordination among election officials, district administration and security agencies to maintain peace and prevent any disruption during the electoral process.
