Agartala, 2nd March 2024:   A daring gang of thieves shut down the electricity of the whole area and broke into six shops in Madhupur market last night. The gang fled with cash and goods worth an estimated four to five lakh rupees, leaving the whole area in panic. The incident has also caused a lot of anger among the local shop owners about the role of the police, who are accused of being absent during the robbery.

Among the shops that were robbed were electronics shops, computer shops, hotels, and salons. The thieves cut the tin of the shops and entered, and even though they saw the CCTV camera, they could not be recognized. They took everything from laptops to expensive mobiles.

One shop owner, named Mithun Roy, said, “My shop had electronics, books, expensive mobiles and other items, thieves entered the shop and took everything.”

Another salon owner said, “I had 10 thousand rupees in cash and an expensive machine. The thief took the machine and ran away.”

The shop owners mentioned that this is not the first time that the Madhupur market has been targeted by thieves. A few months ago, there was a similar robbery, and at that time too, the shop owners had started questioning the role of the Madhupur police station staff, who always sat there where the robbery took place. Today it happened again.

During the media interactions the secretary of Madhupur Bazar Committee, Tapan Debnath said, “I could not understand why the police were not there last night. However, in the coming days, I will talk to the shop owners and the businessmen of the market and arrange for security in a new way. But one thing can be said that the businessmen have lost faith in the police, and it will be very difficult for the police officials for them to regain it.”

The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. However, the culprits are still at large. The incident has caused panic in the whole area.

Meanwhile, another theft case was reported at Durganagar, where a group of thieves targeted the grocery store of Dipu Ranjan Biswas located at the Durganagar market in Bishalgarh.

In speaking with the media personnel, the shop owner Biswas said that the thieves had entered the shop by breaking the walls made of tin and stole around 16,000 rupees of cash and other goods as well.

After being informed, the police staff arrived to assess the situation and initiate their investigation.
