Agartala, 7th March 2025: Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Tribal Students’ Union (TSU) staged a protest march on Friday, demanding an investigation into an alleged scam at Tripura Medical College (TMC).
The protest started from Chatra Yuva Bhavan and moved through various streets of the capital, raising concerns about corruption within the institution.
SFI State Secretary Sandipan Deb alleged that a teacher at Tripura Medical College had deliberately given low marks to students to force them into supplementary exams, later clearing them in exchange for bribes.
According to Deb, these allegations have surfaced this year, and the accused teacher is reportedly linked to Tripura University authorities.
A delegation from SFI and TSU had earlier met the Director of Medical Education to demand a fair investigation into the issue. They submitted a deputation, urging that an inquiry be conducted under a retired judge. The student leaders emphasized that such malpractices jeopardize the academic future of meritorious students and amount to a serious crime.
Deb further claimed that the Director of Medical Education had instructed Tripura Medical College authorities to submit a report within three days, but no response has been received so far. Meanwhile, the accused teacher has allegedly resigned and fled, with the government being accused of aiding in the cover-up.
The student organizations demanded an immediate investigation by an impartial agency, as concerns grow over the future of students at the medical college. Deb criticized the government, claiming that if the issue had not been highlighted by the media, the Chief Minister would have ignored it entirely. He alleged that the Chief Minister is now calling for an inquiry merely to protect himself, despite being aware of the situation.
The protesters insisted that neither the health department nor the police administration could ensure a fair probe. They reiterated their demand for an investigation led by a retired High Court judge to bring out the truth.
