Agartala, 2nd December 2024: Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Monday staged a protest in front of the office of the Director of the Minority Welfare Department, demanding immediate resolution of irregularities in the distribution of stipends to minority students. The dharna, organized to seek justice for the students deprived of their due financial assistance, highlighted the ongoing issues faced by the beneficiaries.
According to the protesters, there have been significant irregularities in the financial aid provided to minority students pursuing various professional courses under the Minority Welfare Department. The department’s advertisement had promised a stipend of Rs 90,000 for each student. However, it has been alleged that while some students received the full amount, others were given only Rs 50,000, leading to confusion and frustration among the students.
An SFI protester explained, “We have tried to communicate with the Director of the Minority Welfare Department several times regarding the stipend issue. Despite our demands for positive steps to resolve this problem, no action has been taken.” This lack of response has compelled the SFI members to stage a sit-in protest in front of the Director’s office.
The protest held to ensure that the students receive the correct amount of stipend, caused a stir as the protesters voiced their demands. “If the issue is not resolved within a week, we will approach the court for justice,” warned the SFI protesters.
The demonstration underscores the urgent need for the authorities to address the discrepancies in stipend distribution and ensure fair treatment for all students. The Minority Welfare Department is expected to take prompt action to resolve the matter and restore confidence among the students.
