Agartala, 25th June 2025: A prolonged power crisis has triggered intense public anger in South Madhupur, where residents have accused the Madhupur Electricity Office of gross negligence and misconduct even detaining an official vehicle in protest.
For weeks, the residents of the South Madhupur 30-card area including the native village of the Kamalasagar Mandal President have reportedly suffered persistent electricity shortages with power available for barely two hours a day. Despite repeated complaints and phone calls to the Madhupur Electric Office, locals claim their calls either go unanswered or are met with dismissive and inappropriate responses from officials.
The crisis worsened yesterday evening when the entire area was plunged into darkness once again. “Our children’s education is being disrupted. We’ve spent sleepless nights. No one is listening,” lamented a local resident.
Frustration peaked early this morning when at around 8 am, a Power department vehicle arrived in the area. Enraged locals stopped the vehicle demanding answers. “We pay our bills every month. Why are we being neglected?” one protester shouted. The vehicle was detained for nearly three hours.
Local police from Madhupur station intervened, but residents refused to relent, insisting that senior electricity officials visit the site and take immediate corrective action. The standoff created heightened tension in the area, with residents warning that future inaction would lead to a protest at the electricity office itself.
Allegations of persistent neglect and mismanagement by electricity department staff are not new in Madhupur. Market vendors have also complained of power outages on business days, exacerbating the crisis.
