Agartala, 25th December 2024: The state government is steadfast in its efforts to double the income of farmers, as highlighted by MLA and Minister Shukla Charan Noatia during a paddy procurement function in Jolaibari today. The event was organized to purchase paddy at a support price, was attended by several dignitaries, including Dakshin Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Dipak Datta, Santirbazar SDM KC Gupta, Jolaibari Agriculture Department Superintendent Shridam Das, Jolaibari Block Panchayat Samiti Chairman Tapas Datta, and social worker Sujit Datta.
Minister Noatia emphasized the government’s commitment to farmers’ development since the political change in 2018. “The current state government is working towards doubling the income of farmers. During the previous Left regime, farmers were not provided any assistance. They used to collect donations and paddy in the name of a special fund and organize various movements with farmers. After the change in the state, we are focusing on the development of farmers,” he said.
He further elaborated on the initiatives taken by the government, including the launch of the KISAN Samman Nidhi Yojana, which provides free seeds and fertilizers to farmers. “The crops produced by farmers are being purchased by the government, and various types of agricultural machinery are being distributed for their development,” Noatia added.
Addressing the challenges faced by farmers, the minister acknowledged the significant losses incurred during the devastating floods last August. “Despite the losses, the tireless work of the agriculture department’s superintendent has enabled farmers to achieve success by producing paddy again. This paddy procurement work will continue till January 3rd, with paddy being procured at Rs 23 per kg,” he stated.
The event highlighted the government’s dedication to supporting farmers and enhancing their livelihoods through various schemes and initiatives. The continued efforts aim to ensure sustainable growth and prosperity for the farming community in Tripura.
