Agartala, 19th April 2026: The State Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Saju Wahid A, visited Kailashahar in Unakoti district on Sunday to assess the ground situation regarding measles and rubella infections.
Arriving at around 10:00 AM from Agartala, the director’s visit triggered heightened activity within the district health administration. Upon arrival, he chaired a high-level review meeting at the Circuit House. The meeting was attended by District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirshendu Chakma, District Surveillance Officer Dr. Amit Debbarma, District Immunization Officer Dr. Sandipan Bhattacharjee, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Pal, among other officials.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the current infection trends and vaccination coverage across the district. The director closely reviewed immunization data and ongoing containment efforts.
Following the meeting, Saju Wahid A visited the Irani Primary Health Centre under Gournagar block. There, he interacted extensively with frontline healthcare workers, including in-charge medical officer Dr. Pritam Das, to understand ground-level challenges. He also inquired about vaccine hesitancy among local residents.
Later, he inspected the Unakoti District Hospital at Bhagaban Nagar in Kailashahar. After reviewing the isolation ward and overall infrastructure, he instructed hospital authorities to strictly adhere to standard treatment guidelines while ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.
Addressing the media after the visit, the NHM Director stated that the situation is currently stable and under control. However, he emphasized caution due to the district’s proximity to Bangladesh, where infection trends could influence border areas.
“We have identified that some children are still missing out on vaccination. A special drive (drive) will be conducted within the next week to ensure MR vaccination for children aged 9 to 16 months,” he said.
He also urged the public not to panic but to remain vigilant. “If anyone develops fever along with red rashes on the skin, they should immediately contact the nearest health centre,” he advised.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare services and eliminating measles and rubella from the district. Officials believe that the director’s visit will accelerate the pace of the ongoing immunization campaign.
