Storm Wreaks Havoc; Residents Warn of Road Blockade

Date:

Agartala, 1st May 2026 :   Severe damage has been reported in Bishramganj and Jampuijala areas due to the recent Kalbaisakhi storm. Houses and shops have been destroyed, and several areas remain without electricity. Angry residents have warned of road blockades if immediate relief is not provided.

In Chikanchhara village, the homes of Billal Mia and Alal Mia, along with several shops, were badly damaged. In another incident, a large jamun tree fell on the Takturma Baptist Church in Jagaibari village under Jampuijala block.

Speaking to the media on Friday, affected residents said they suffered heavy losses in the storm on April 29 and demanded immediate government assistance to rebuild their lives.

In Pramodnagar village, electricity has been disrupted for the past five days, with electric poles lying damaged. Due to the power outage, residents are also facing a drinking water crisis, and students are unable to study.

Despite repeated complaints to the electricity department, no repair work has been carried out, residents alleged. They warned that if power supply is not restored immediately, they will be forced to block roads.

Officials, however, stated that teams are working continuously to restore services across the state, which has suffered widespread damage due to the storm. They appealed to the public to remain patient and avoid disruptive actions like road blockades.
