Students forced to eat mid-day meals under open sky; Guardians raise infra concerns at Kanchanmala School

Date:

Agartala, 29th June 2026:   Concerns over poor infrastructure and inadequate facilities have triggered resentment among guardians of students at Kanchanmala Lakshmichhara Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School under the Golaghati Assembly constituency. Guardians have alleged that students are being deprived of basic amenities, affecting their learning environment and daily school experience.

During a visit to the school on Monday, it was observed that there is no proper seating arrangement for students during mid-day meals. As a result, many students are compelled to eat while standing in open areas, under the sky or beneath trees. Guardians expressed concern that the situation becomes more difficult during the rainy season and extreme weather conditions. They also pointed out that consuming food in such unhygienic surroundings may pose health risks to the students.

The guardians further alleged that the school lacks adequate arrangements for safe drinking water. Due to the absence of a reliable facility, most students reportedly carry drinking water from their homes. They claimed that despite the issue continuing for a long period, no permanent solution has been initiated by the concerned authorities.

Another major concern raised by guardians is the shortage of teachers in the primary section of the school. They alleged that the lack of sufficient teaching staff, especially for nursery-level students, has resulted in younger children being taught together with older students. According to them, this arrangement is affecting the quality of primary education and the proper learning process of children.

Guardians stated that these problems have remained unresolved for a considerable period despite repeated concerns. They have urged the Education Department of the state government and elected representatives to take immediate steps to improve the school’s infrastructure and ensure basic facilities for students.

Local residents expressed hope that necessary measures will be taken soon so that students can study and receive mid-day meals in a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment.
