Agartala, 10th June 2026: A controversial incident took place on Wednesday involving nine Class IX students of Chatchhari English Medium School under Sabroom Sub-Division, who appeared for their annual-saving examination.
The day’s examination was English. However, before the examination began, a major issue came to light. Representatives of Chatchhari English Medium School visited the office of the School Inspector at Rupaichhari to collect the question papers. Upon reaching there, they were informed that no question papers had been received for Chatchhari English Medium School.
This triggered a frantic effort to arrange the examination. Eventually, the English question paper was obtained online from another school, photocopied, and distributed to the students for the examination.
Mithun Das, the teacher-in-charge of the examination, reportedly shifted the responsibility for the lapse onto the School Inspector’s office at Rupaichhari.
On the other hand, the School Inspector of Rupaichhari stated that Chatchhari English Medium School had failed to submit its question paper requisition to the South District Education Department within the stipulated time. As a result, question papers for the school were not supplied.
The incident has raised serious questions regarding administrative negligence. Observers believe that the responsibility for the lapse ultimately rests with the Headmaster of Chatchhari English Medium School, Sudhan Debbarma.
According to education regulations, question papers are not supposed to be photocopied from external sources, making the arrangement highly irregular and ethically questionable. A thorough investigation into the matter is likely to reveal the actual sequence of events and determine accountability.
It now remains to be seen what action the Education Department will take in response to this incident.
